Against All Odds by Ms Hina Baluch
As a new sunrise dawned for 2020 hardly a few were aware of the perils of the new pandemic that kept lurking at each nook and corner. COVID-19 broke out late in 2019 itself and reached far and wide as the new year struck for most countries.
The possibilities turned bleak for everyone, safety, health, poverty, nations began a new battle on an individual and larger scope. People kept shunning it till it reached alarming death toll rates, affecting loved and near ones, sending a wave of shock and fear.
The healthcare workers consisting doctors, nurses and much other staff certainly became the undisputed heroes of humanity, nevertheless, almost all of us had to turn into saviours and heroes for our selves, our sanity and safety. Gone were the days where people would debate on various topics, the lethal pandemic loomed over everyone’s lives.
In this whole period of uncertainty, educators had to choose their role. Schools and all educational institutions had to be closed immediately and a storm was raging, a storm of complete trial. Allah certainly does not burden a soul more than it can bear- this is what became a reminder in terms of jeopardy.
My feelings were no different than any other parent or even as an educator. Throughout I kept praying for the safety of all my children. Gratitude overswept me when we were preparing lessons for our lovely students as we geared up to take charge and make the most even in difficult times like these. Meeting them all daily reminds me of how lively our classrooms were and how my heart yearns to be a part of all that day in and out. Along with those children, my coworkers are deeply missed and in my prayers throughout. All heads, Lead Teachers, Year Tutors have been so helpful and never have they forgotten to give us a pat on our back despite the errors made by many all along.
Just when we were making plans for our life, Allah slowed us down to remind us who is in charge. Let’s wholeheartedly turn to Him, submit and thank Him for giving us all that He has even when times are so hard and uncertain.
When all this is over, let’s never forget to become people of care, to show kindness and to become an embodiment of generosity for ourselves and the ones we meet and deal with. May Allah bring us out of this in health and enable us to turn into His submission to never forgo our blessings.
Words such as these have become feelings of all and the expression of still a very few. May Allah be pleased with us and make us people whom He favours.
