Generation’s 1st Inter-School Scrabble Competition

Scrabble Competition

The Inter-School Scrabble Competition was a wonderful opportunity for students from different schools to interact with one another and develop social skills. The objective of the competition was to create opportunities for the youth to focus on the wonderful game of scrabble, learn to strategise, improve vocabulary and enjoy the learn these important skills.

The 1st Generation’s Interschool Scrabble Competition organized by the Scrabble Club of the Middle Section in collaboration with Pakistan Scrabble Association was held on Saturday, October 5, 2019. 132 students participated from different schools including BVS Parsi School, St. Patrick’s, Happy Home, PECHS School, Star Links, Fajr Academy, The Intellect School, The Elixir School along with students from Generation’s School.

The results awarded were divided into two age group categories

Category A (12-13 yrs)

  • 1st Position Monis Khan – BVS Parsi School
  • 2nd Position Meenal Basit – Happy Home School
  • 3rd Position Saif ur Rahman – Generation’s School

Category B (14-15 yrs)

  • 1st Position Aaish Salahuddin – BVS Parsi School
  • 2nd Position Fariha Kashif  – Generation’s School
  • 3rd Position M. Hamza Hasan – Starlinks School

Special awards went to

  • Highest Scoring Word Award by Ansh Pahooja St. Patrick’s School and Meenal Basit from Happy Home School
  • Fancy Word Award by Raahima Khan Generation’s School and Abdullah Zafar St. Patrick’s School
  • Bingo Master by Aaish Salahuddin and Monis Khan from BVS Parsi School

Congratulations to all the winners and the winning schools!

Ms Uzma Shakeel, Vice Principal, Middle and Senior Sections at Generation’s School was full of praise for the students’ participation and encouraged them to hone their skills in the game. Ms Sadia Ashar, Headmistress Middle Section commented that the event was able to achieve its objective: providing students yet another encouraging platform to pursue productive activities.

Mr Aazar F. Wilson from BVS sent across his congratulatory message soon after the event, “Many congratulations to you for organising a great event yesterday. Your hospitality was phenomenal as we have received great feedback from our boys. We look forward to taking part in your competitions. Please also consider organizing them for lower grades (Primary classes) as well.”

Mr Tariq Pervez, Director, Youth Programmes at PSA. He is also a member of the World Scrabble Association. He has been representing team Pakistan for the past fifteen years at different international forums. Mr Pervez commented on the quality of the event and was most pleased to see nascent Scrabble-playing Generians winning positions. He said with proper training, Generians have great potential in developing expert skill levels at the game and win at the international events.

A special note of thanks for the Pakistan Scrabble Association for their support and collaboration in making this event a success. We certainly look forward to hosting more events for the youth to develop important 21st-century skills.
