May Update for Covid-19 Disruption School to Resume Session in June, Online
Dear parents and students,
May Update for Covid-19 Disruption
School to Resume Session in June, Online
Assalamu alaikum and Ramadan mubarak!
I pray all is well at your end. These are unprecedented times, presenting unprecedented challenges for us all. Generation’s School is all set to resume the current session (2019-20) on June 01, insha’allah, through online teaching and learning as the latest Government directives disallow schools to have students on campus even in June. The scope of online learning activities will be further broadened over the coming weeks.
Revised Tentative Calendar
- April 01 – May 31: Summer vacation, including Eid holidays (with the exception of the Middle and Senior Sections, for whom the thorough Online Learning Programme continued through much of April).
- June 01: Resumption of Current Session 2019-20 through Online Teaching & Learning.
- Students shall resume on-campus learning as soon as it is permitted by the Government, insha’allah.
- August: Commencement of New Academic Session 2020-21.
Cambridge Assessments
O & A Level exams have been cancelled worldwide, and the process of evidence-based grading is underway. Alhamdulillah, Generation’s is well placed for providing evidence of student learning and achievement, with a strong focus on formative and summative assessments, as well as record keeping. The Senior Section team has been communicating with students and parents regularly and has been conducting intense counselling sessions, supporting individuals and families to be able to make the right choices. Pray all goes well, insha’allah.
Online Learning
Alhamdulillah, active teaching and learning have been taking place in the Senior Section, the Middle Section, and to a great extent in Grade VI as well.
- It is critical that students and parents make the best use of this mode of learning. The School is making great efforts to build capacity, train teachers, and re-align mechanisms. Everyone is on a steep learning curve, and I am sure we will get better at it with time and practice, insha’allah.
- Regular attendance, assignments and assessments will essentially be a part of the online learning wherever applicable. Section-wise details of the online learning activities in June will follow.
Home Assignments
For the younger age-groups, students were given Home Assignments throughout March. More recently, summer vacation and Ramadan homework have been uploaded. Your child is expected to have a regular routine for quality learning and completion of tasks. Please do not put it off for later.
PTMs and Students’ Book Packs
Our earlier plans for PTMs in March, and parents collecting book packs, had to be aborted due to the escalating lockdown, as well as health and safety precautions. We are now actively working out a strategy to make the book packs accessible to the students as soon as possible, insha’allah. Parent-Teacher Meetings shall be scheduled at the earliest opportunity in June or July. Details will follow.
Beyond Online Learning
It is heartening to see a variety of very important institutional practices adapting and innovating to ensure that teaching and learning continue with sustained superior performance. These include:
- Online Professional Development for Staff (teacher training) – including very extensive online teacher training for online teaching!
- Online Parenting Workshop – Leader in Me: online workshops will be conducted by Franklin Covey Pakistan, for parents in June. I would urge you all to participate, keeping in mind the synergy we need to create at Generation’s to maximise our children’s potentials. We had excellent feedback from the parents who attended the previous workshop on the 7 Habits.
- A Level Virtual Open House: The Senior Section will be holding the School’s first Virtual Open House for the A Level Programme tomorrow (Thursday), from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, insha’allah. Details have been sent over WhatsApp and are available on the website. Please do spread the word, and invite friends and family to attend.
- Online Admissions: The entire admission process – including forms, assessments and discussions – is now fully online for all age groups. For further details, please visit the school website.
Well Done Generians!
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of all our staff members who found themselves in an unimaginable position. They went all out to learn new skills and engage students online the best they could and sustain the school’s operations and performance. And I would wish to appreciate the parents’ support for their children’s learning throughout this journey thus far. Well done students! Let’s continue to be patient and let’s persevere – with the Generian Grit. I have full faith that we will all emerge stronger and better… the beginning of many Great Stories to come, insha’allah!
Way Forward
As the plan continues to evolve and change, further updates will follow. Please stay tuned to the School updates through the Generation’s website, as well as through WhatsApp (03000220640) and the Facebook page.
Please continue to stay updated on Covid-19 guidelines and preventive measures. Prevention is better than cure, so please do follow the guidelines religiously yourselves, and teach the children to do so. Enjoy your Ramadan. Make the best of it. May Allah have mercy on us all, and the planet. And a very hearty Eid Mubarak to all!
Jazakumullah al khair, and stay safe!
